The United Kingdom is set to progress with using the full worth of seized Russia's funds to aid the Ukrainian war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a collective announcement, the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this unified step would heighten pressure on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and urge the Russian Federation to engage in negotiations.

They added that the move would be implemented in tight collaboration with the United States.

UK restrictions have immobilized over £25bn of Russia's assets since Moscow began its comprehensive attack against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. However, previously, resources allocated to Ukraine using Russian holdings had solely been drawn from earnings and returns earned on them.

Sir Keir told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their goal to push forward toward utilizing the full value of the frozen Russia's state holdings to conclude the conflict.

He stated that additional sanctions over the next period would apply more pressure on the Russian government.

This announcement is subsequent to EU leaders gathered in the Danish capital previously to debate utilizing seized Russian assets for a €140bn loan to Ukraine.

Recently, US President Donald Trump encouraged international partners to take or otherwise use seized Russia's holdings, based on news outlets.

President Zelensky calls on UK's Sir Keir Starmer to join the Purl programme

The Russian government carried out widespread missile and drone strikes all over Ukraine on Friday, causing electricity outages in large parts of Kyiv, the city, and several other zones.

Also on Friday, Zelensky told reporters he would press Sir Keir to participate in the weapons procurement scheme, under which Nato countries acquire weapons from the America to provide to Ukraine.

While applauding the UK's firm backing for the Ukrainian government, he noted it should send a clear signal that it would participate in the initiative, as well as impose additional sanctions on the Russian Federation.
