The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
