Iranian Forces State Assault on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the United States has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted debris landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
