Information Available Regarding the Victims of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident
At least 16 lives lost their lives and in excess of 40 were wounded when gunmen shot at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, a tragedy local authorities are describing as a act of terrorism.
According to the most recent information, authorities have announced the number of fatalities stands at 16, including one of the suspected gunmen. Moreover, 42 injured people were admitted to medical facilities.
The deceased are yet to be formally identified, but investigators think their ages are between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Known as a father of five children, he was the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative remarked.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their youngest child in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.
She recounted the moments before the shooting, stating they were standing when the shooting started. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she stated.
The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced unspeakable terror in their youth. They had later moved to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
Publicly, the Foreign Minister expressed that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the statement read.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, according to police reports.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was a fatality during the attack, according to reports referencing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospital, a significant number remain under care, with several in a critical state. The injured comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.
One of the injured is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Hailed as a local hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Sources state he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also noted the actions of those who rushed to help. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the attack. He told reporters he listened to “a large number” of shots.
“Initially, I believed it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
