One 60-day journey circling the Land Down Under is being halted days after the tragic passing of an older woman who was left behind by the vessel on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with shipmates from the cruise ship, but separated from the excursion for a break. The vessel sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the crew discovered the lady was not present.

A major rescue mission located her body the following day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the event, in coordination with investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer announced that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the travel back of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also issued an latest statement, and said they had "provided a order to the Captain" banning any new passengers from entering the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the liner in Cairns upon its arrival.

The vessel first departed the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the time of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the first stop on the voyage.
