A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
